OUR PROGRAMS
Men About Change (MAC) is an educational enrichment, mentoring, early learning, and childcare/supervision program designed to specifically address the unique needs of underserved at-risk youth in the Macon – Bibb County community and beyond. The program is the brainchild of Dr. Ervin Clowers, a 30-year veteran educator of the public school system.
Afterschool Program
Men About Change offers services that reinforce and enrich educational attainment and performance, social and personal development, and character-building to K-12 students from throughout the Bibb County School System, Monday – Friday from 3:30-6:30. The program also offers academics in the areas of reading and math, arts and crafts, music, dance, cooking, sewing, and other recreational programs. Our major academic thrusts are in the areas of reading and math. Our students participate in on-going acceleration and remediation in reading and math through engagement with certified teachers. STEM is an important part of our program as well. These are critical components that are essential to the overall development of the students that we serve.u want to share with your visitors.
summer Program
Men About Change offers summer programming to youth in grades K-12 on Monday- Thursday from 8:00AM – 5:00 PM. Our youth have the opportunity to experience a summer of remediation and acceleration in reading, math, and STEM education during our program hours. Enrichment education takes place during the afternoon hours. Enrichment includes music, dance, cooking, sewing, art, arts and crafts, video games. Men About Change provides students with opportunities to takes field trips throughout the summer program session exposing them to the world at large beyond Macon-Bibb County.
leadership academy
This component of our program offers participants real-world experiences through apprenticeships that align with their career aspirations. Our apprentices work side-by-side with professionals at organizations, gaining hands-on experience that will prove invaluable in their overall professional development. Our apprentices benefit through the development of soft skills in the areas of listening, communication, relationship building, and team building and collaboration. Our Apprentices work at their assigned locations four days per week.
COUNSELING SERVICES
Due to the complexity of issues facing youth in the Macon-Bibb County, Men About Change recognizes the importance of providing services essential to helping our students navigate these challenges. We employ two part-time certified counselors who work on a weekly basis with our students, assisting them with any issues they are struggling with in their day-to-day lives.
