For tens of millions of children in the United States, school isn’t just a place to learn, but a place where they can depend on receiving healthy meals. In March 2020, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), more than 31 million children participated in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and more than 17 million participated in the School Breakfast Program (SBP); the vast majority of children receiving these school meals are from families with low incomes.

With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, hundreds of students in the Bibb County School District have lost access to the nutritious meals provided in schools everyday. This has impacted families throughout the county, who now find themselves responsible for providing the two meals per day that they could previously depend upon the school system to provide their children. This has created a newfound level of food insecurity throughout the community, one that is especially onerous for low-income families.
This past spring, Men About Change responded to this issue by starting the Meal Assistance Program (MAP). MAP provides nutritious daily meals to families impacted by the loss of school meals due to COVID-19-related school closures. MAC proudly offers this program free of charge to the Bibb County community. Families may pick up meals from the learning center at Glorious Hope Baptist Church at the hours listed above.
MAC also provides hot meals to all who attend our daily programs within the learning center.
